Specializing in cases involving children where multidisciplinary training in psychology, linguistics, forensic interviewing, suggestibility of children, child abuse, physical injury and the law is applied. Melissa Kliemann is a graduate of Central Michigan University (with a double-major in Psychology and English – Writing), and she earned her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 2015. During law school, she was involved in numerous student organizations, including as Executive Editor of The Journal of Law in Society. In her first couple years of practice, Melissa focused on legal aid and no-fault auto insurance cases before transitioning to her preferred practice area of criminal defense in 2018. She served as a public defender in multiple Michigan counties from 2018 through 2023. Melissa has also interned for the Federal Defender Office, the Free Legal Aid Clinic (FLAC), and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). She has a strong interest in criminal defense, juvenile cases, and education law.
